An annual income of 1.5 billion dollars could easily be obtained from herbal plant exports, says primary industries minister Daya Gamage.
Speaking at a function in Galle, he said there was a demand of around 140 billion dollars in the world market for traditional medicinal products and services.
He said his ministry was looking into the possibility of contributing one pc of that demand.
A programme will be launched to promote the production of herbal plant related products, he said.
The government will lay the groundwork to ensure high prices of such plants, which can be grown at home gardens, said the minister.
