Bee-Keeping Programme

As a solution for the scarcity of bee’s honey necessary for various honey-based products in Sri Lanka, an island-wide bee-keeping drive was commenced in the year 2017 with a view to protecting and developing the Sri Lankan bee’s honey producers and market. Identification and training of farmers who are willing to be engaged in bee-keeping have already been commenced and at present, the procurement process aimed at distributing 10,000 hives and 4,000 accessories has been commenced. This programme can bring in a harvest of 60 tonnes of honey and an export income of 100 million dollars.
