Series of appraisals for primary industries development

The primary industries ministry today launched a series of appraisals titled ‘research innovation towards knowledge economy’ on a concept by minister Daya Gamage.

On every Friday and Saturday for a six week period, these appraisals will be held to discuss progress made in research conducted in primary industries and export agricultural crop sectors.

Seven institutions will place 137 research and development proposals and research results before a panel of expert researchers.

The ministry has allocated Rs. 200 million to further develop and implement those ideas.

Ministry secretary Bandula Wickramarachchi, Prof. Ajith de Silva of Moratuwa University, Prof. K.D.N. Weerasinghe of the Ruhunu University, economist Dr. Chatura Rodrigo, scientist Dr. Shehan de Silva and officials of the Export Agriculture Department attended the first appraisal today.
